lesson
Compare how writers frame the same event
1 · Learn
Text A: The square finally filled with voices; empty benches became meeting places. Text B: By noon, the square's quiet corners had vanished beneath a tide of voices. Both original accounts describe a busy square, but they select different values.
Comparison needs evidence from both texts. A celebrates renewed social use through 'finally' and 'meeting places'; B presents the loss of quiet through 'vanished' and the overwhelming 'tide'.
2 · Worked example
Both mention voices, but A treats them as welcome while B associates them with the disappearance of quiet.
3 · Your turn
Which word in A signals that the change was awaited positively, and which verb in B emphasises loss?
Check your answer
'Finally' in A; 'vanished' in B.
4 · Apply your learning
Write a comparative paragraph linking the two attitudes rather than producing two unrelated summaries.
Adult guidance and safety
Use the actual supplied passage before asking for evidence. Accept alternative interpretations supported by precise details. These short models require wider whole-text reading, two authors studied in depth during the year, and the stage's Shakespeare provision before full KS3 coverage can be claimed.
