lesson
Context should explain evidence, not replace it
1 · Learn
A contextual fact can illuminate a text when connected to a particular choice. It does not automatically prove every character's motive or every reader's reaction. Separate verified historical information from an interpretation of the writing.
In this invented scenario, a town has just closed its only factory. A story describes an unused whistle above a silent gate. That supplied context makes the silence meaningful, but it does not identify how every resident feels.
2 · Worked example
The unused factory whistle may suggest the loss of a shared daily routine. 'Everyone is delighted' is unsupported by the supplied details.
3 · Your turn
Explain one supported link between the closed factory and the silent whistle.
Check your answer
The silence can represent the ending of the factory's working routine or its absence from the town's daily life.
4 · Apply your learning
Write one contextual inference and one claim that would require further evidence.
Adult guidance and safety
Use the actual supplied passage before asking for evidence. Accept alternative interpretations supported by precise details. These short models require wider whole-text reading, two authors studied in depth during the year, and the stage's Shakespeare provision before full KS3 coverage can be claimed.
Open your writing and drawing pad
Write, draw or show your working. Use a mouse, pen or finger. This pad is not a submitted answer.
Not saved to your account. Download your drawing as PNG and your typed notes as TXT before leaving or refreshing. They are separate files. Do not enter private information.
Open a picture saved on this device to draw on it again. Opening replaces the drawing, but Undo can restore it. PNG only, up to 4 MB and 4096 × 4096 pixels. The picture stays in this browser; it is not uploaded. Paper lines in a saved picture become part of that picture.
Clear the drawing? Your typed notes will stay. You can undo this action.
Your pad is empty.
Open a UTF-8 TXT file from this device, up to 40 KB and 10,000 characters. It stays in this browser. Opening can be undone until you type again. Downloads keep a new copy; they do not change the file you opened.
Replace the notes on this page with the opened file? Download the current notes first if you want to keep them.
Typed notes are not submitted answers.
