Keep a science record
Read with an adult. You can say, point, draw or write your answer.
1 · Learn
A record helps us remember what we really noticed. We can draw, write, count or measure. Add a date when you watch something change.
A table puts records into rows. Look at our made-up plant record. It shows measurements, not a guess about tomorrow.
2 · Worked example
On Monday the plant was 4 cm tall. On Friday it was 7 cm tall. It grew 3 cm between those measurements.
3 · Your turn
In this example, how tall was the plant on Wednesday? Does the record tell us how tall it will be next Monday?
Check your answer
It was 5 cm tall. No: we have not measured next Monday yet. We could make a prediction, then check later.
4 · Apply your learning
With an adult, choose a safe plant. Measure from the same point each time and keep your own dated record.

Values shown are fictional teaching data. Use a ruler together; do not require independent centimetre measuring before it has been taught.
