Numbers in words

Read with an adult. You can say, point, draw or write your answer.

1 · Learn

A numeral and a number name can show the same amount. 46 is forty-six. The tens name comes first.

Twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty and ninety name groups of tens. Check forty: it has no letter u.

20 twenty40 forty60 sixty80 eighty
Key words and supplied examples.

2 · Worked example

I hear seventy-two. Seventy is 70 and two is 2, so I write 72.

3 · Your turn

Write fifty-eight as a numeral. Write 90 in words.

Check your answer

58; ninety.

4 · Apply your learning

Make matching numeral and word cards for 21, 35, 47 and 100. One hundred matches 100.

Adult guidance and safety

Use practical objects before symbols. Read the task aloud when needed and ask the child to explain, not just name an answer. Revisit with different examples; one successful answer is not proof of fluency.

Your pad is empty.

Open a UTF-8 TXT file from this device, up to 40 KB and 10,000 characters. It stays in this browser. Opening can be undone until you type again. Downloads keep a new copy; they do not change the file you opened.
