Original narrative-time model, 'map': Ali folded the map at the river. During the earlier journey, the bridge there had been closed. This afternoon a new crossing shone beyond the trees. Distinguish when events happened from when readers learn them. A past association can illuminate a present response without making the current event identical to the past one.
