Read before answering

Original narrative-time model, 'song': Kit turned away when the song began. Two months earlier, the song had closed the final rehearsal. Now a stranger hummed it at the bus stop. Distinguish when events happened from when readers learn them. A past association can illuminate a present response without making the current event identical to the past one.
