Original narrative-time model, 'bell': The bell rang and Ivo dropped the cup. Last winter, that sound had announced the flood. Now the corridor was dry, but his hands shook. Distinguish when events happened from when readers learn them. A past association can illuminate a present response without making the current event identical to the past one.
