Original first-person passage, 'The match': Losing never bothered me. I folded the results sheet until nobody could read the score and put it in the deepest pocket. Separate the narrator's claim from reported behaviour. A tension invites a qualified interpretation; it does not prove every detail false or reveal the author's life.
