Read the information, then answer the questions. An adult may read the instructions aloud. Show your working where asked.
Read before answering
Simplify 12a + 5b - 7a + 4b. Only terms with the same variable part combine. For evaluation use a = -2, b = -1; brackets around negative values help keep their signs. Multiplication such as 4a means 4 times a, not a two-digit number.
