Separate what happens from what you infer - Online practice 3

Read the information, then answer the questions. An adult may read the instructions aloud. Show your working where asked.

Read before answering

Original opening, 'The empty chair': All morning I had guarded the only chair near the heater. Outside, rain tapped against the windows; inside, coats dripped onto the floor. A younger pupil arrived without a coat. I looked at my bag on the seat. I picked it up. The pupil sat down, and I stood close enough to the heater to warm one hand. Separate stated actions from interpretations. An inference must use a clue; it cannot establish an unstated motive as fact.
