A small action can reveal a conflict - Paper 3

Read the information, then answer the questions. An adult may read the instructions aloud. Show your working where asked.

Read before answering

Original opening, 'The team sheet': For days I had imagined my name at the top of the list. The corridor smelled of floor polish, and a loose window rattled. My name was halfway down. I folded the sheet, then unfolded it when another player asked who had been chosen. I held it where we could both read. Neither of us spoke at first. Analyse the character's choice using actions and pauses, not only a label such as 'kind'. An interpretation may be plausible without being certain.
