Read before answering

Original opening, 'The final rehearsal': For two hours I had insisted that I knew every line. In the rehearsal room a strip light buzzed above the empty seats. At the last speech, my mind went blank. My partner whispered a word. I started again, then stopped. 'Can we practise that part together?' I asked. She moved her chair closer. Analyse the character's choice using actions and pauses, not only a label such as 'kind'. An interpretation may be plausible without being certain.
