Online worksheet ยท 4 of 4

Instructions are processed in a sequence - Online practice 4

Read the information, then answer the questions. An adult may read the instructions aloud. Show your working where asked.

Read before answering

Paper processor instructions, in order: LOAD 2; ADD 8; OUTPUT; LOAD 5; OUTPUT. LOAD replaces the working value, ADD increases it, OUTPUT records its current value without changing it. Fetch obtains the next instruction; decode identifies its operation; execute carries it out. This is a simplified model, not a real machine's instruction encoding.

  2. List both outputs from this program ending with LOAD 5; OUTPUT.
  3. Does fetching ADD 8 itself change the working value? Distinguish fetch from execute.
