Checked spelling: island. In its usual standard pronunciation, the written s is silent. Model: The invented island appeared on our map. Pronunciation can vary; use an appropriate dictionary or adult model. Sound alone does not reveal every letter. Practise recall of the whole word, not just its silent letter.
