Read before answering
Main sentence pieces: 'Nia' and 'collected the cards.' Extra information to insert between them: 'our team captain'. Parenthesis sets apart removable extra information. Use a pair of brackets, or a suitable pair of commas or dashes. The main sentence must still work when the extra information is removed.
