Evidence card: an ancient leaf impression preserved in rock. Fossils preserve evidence of living things from long ago, including remains and traces. One route begins with burial by sediment; over a long time the sediment may become rock and preserve evidence. Most living things do not fossilise. Do not dig at protected sites or handle unknown remains.
