Read the information, then answer the questions. An adult may read the instructions aloud. Show your working where asked.

Read before answering

Read with an adult: 'a soft sound' uses soft to describe a noun. Add ly: soft + ly = softly. Now read 'The drum sounded softly.' The verb sounded tells the action. The adverb softly tells us how it happened. These examples keep the root spelling. Not all adverbs end in ly: 'The rabbit ran fast' is correct.
