Read before answering

Original complete short passage, 'Curtain seam': Leah waited at the stage door with the costume she had torn. She had sewn the seam again, leaving the stitches visible. Inside, a rehearsal stopped. She lifted her hand to knock, lowered it and checked the thread. Then she knocked and called the director's name. A strip of light appeared beneath the door; nobody had yet opened it.
