Original complete short passage, 'Garden latch': Anil arrived with the spade his neighbour had lent him before the disagreement. Rust marked its edge. He had polished the handle twice that morning. At the garden gate he saw a broken latch held shut with string. He untied the knot and called his neighbour's name. A watering can stood beyond the gate, its water catching the light.
