Calibrated image length 12 mm; actual object length 30 micrometres. Magnification=image size/actual size in matching units; 1 mm=1000 micrometres. A later copy doubles both image dimensions and its embedded scale bar. Assume the original measurements are correctly calibrated.

  1. Calculate magnification from 12 mm and 30 micrometres.
  2. What is the magnification on the doubled-size copy? Does the actual object double in size?
  3. Why can an embedded scale bar stay useful when a printed magnification label becomes wrong? Does enlargement guarantee better resolution?
