Positive lengths a and b display 12 cm and 7 cm, each rounded to the nearest centimetre using halfway-up rounding. Thus 11.5 <= a < 12.5 and 6.5 <= b < 7.5. Keep endpoint inclusion explicit; the displayed values are not exact.

- Give the interval for a+b from the displayed 12 cm and 7 cm.
- Give exact lower and upper limiting bounds for a/b, and state whether either is attained.
- Why must the numerator and denominator endpoints be chosen differently for a quotient?
