Original passage, 'Workshop bench': The workshop's machines were already covered. On the cleared bench, a circle of clean wood showed where the old compass had rested. Mari packed it beside the new digital tools. Her apprentice asked whether it still worked. Mari opened its legs, drew a small circle on the wrapping paper and folded the paper around it without answering. Then she labelled the box for collection.
