Length & Height

Measuring length, height, area and perimeter in 2D shapes.

The length: The length is a measure of the distance in horizontally

The height: The two high points in vertically.

Perimeter

The distance around the edges are the sum of the lengths of all the edges.

Perimeter can be measured in millimetres(mm),centimetres (cm), metres (m) or kilometres(km).

Area

An area is a measure of the amount of space inside the shape.

The area of a centimetre square is called 1 square centimetre. This is written as 1 cm squared.

Rectangle: (perimeter)

A rectangle is a 2D shape, having four sides and four corners.

To find the perimeter of the rectangle, add to the two sides lengths and another two sides heights.

One side lengths is the same is the other side length, and also one side height is the same as another height.

Example: So the heights are 6cm+6cm= 12 cm.

the Lengths are 12cm+12cm = 24 cm .

Perimeter of the rectangle is = 12+ 24 = 36cm.

Rectangle: (Area)

To find the area of the rectangle, times by the length and the height.

Example: 6 x 12 = 72 cm2
