Improve meaning before checking surface errors

1 · Learn

Revision asks whether the argument, order and evidence work. Proofreading then checks spelling, punctuation, grammar and consistency. Correcting every comma cannot rescue an unsupported conclusion.

Original claim: 'The club is popular because everyone likes it.' Revision could specify what evidence would establish popularity and remove the circular explanation. Do not invent attendance figures to make the sentence sound convincing.

Key words and supplied examples.

2 · Worked example

A cautious revision is 'Attendance records would help us judge demand for the club.' It identifies missing evidence rather than disguising the gap.

3 · Your turn

Why is 'everyone likes it' not useful evidence for the claim that a club is popular?

Check your answer

It restates the claim without independent support and makes an unverified universal assertion.

4 · Apply your learning

Revise a paragraph first for reasoning, then proofread it in a separate pass and explain one meaningful change.

Adult guidance and safety

Use the actual supplied passage before asking for evidence. Accept alternative interpretations supported by precise details. These short models require wider whole-text reading, two authors studied in depth during the year, and the stage's Shakespeare provision before full KS3 coverage can be claimed.

Open your writing and drawing pad

Write, draw or show your working. Use a mouse, pen or finger. This pad is not a submitted answer.

Not saved to your account. Download your drawing as PNG and your typed notes as TXT before leaving or refreshing. They are separate files. Do not enter private information.

Open a picture saved on this device to draw on it again. Opening replaces the drawing, but Undo can restore it. PNG only, up to 4 MB and 4096 × 4096 pixels. The picture stays in this browser; it is not uploaded. Paper lines in a saved picture become part of that picture.

Drawing is unavailable. Use the typed working area below.

Your pad is empty.

Open a UTF-8 TXT file from this device, up to 40 KB and 10,000 characters. It stays in this browser. Opening can be undone until you type again. Downloads keep a new copy; they do not change the file you opened.

Typed notes are not submitted answers.
