Evaluate possibilities against the same evidence

1 · Learn

Read: Leena returned the key without meeting his eyes. Her hand rested on the door for a moment before she left. One interpretation is regret; another is discomfort or reluctance. The text supplies actions, not a direct emotional label.

A stronger analysis compares which details support each possibility and what remains uncertain. It need not declare every interpretation equally convincing or invent an unseen event to settle the matter.

Key words and supplied examples.

2 · Worked example

The pause at the door supports reluctance more directly than a claim that Leena is celebrating. Avoiding eye contact could have several explanations.

3 · Your turn

Name one supported interpretation and one detail supporting it.

Check your answer

She may be reluctant to leave, supported by her hand resting on the door before departure. Other evidence-based answers are possible.

4 · Apply your learning

Write two interpretations and rank their support without pretending that the passage states either as fact.

Adult guidance and safety

Use the actual supplied passage before asking for evidence. Accept alternative interpretations supported by precise details. These short models require wider whole-text reading, two authors studied in depth during the year, and the stage's Shakespeare provision before full KS3 coverage can be claimed.
