lesson

Two accounts can emphasise different things

1 · Learn

Account A: 'The new library corner was wonderfully quiet. I finally finished my book without interruption.' Account B: 'The new library corner had only two chairs. Three of us had to wait before we could sit down.' Both may describe the same place accurately.

Compare what each writer values and the evidence each selects. Different viewpoints do not automatically mean one writer is lying. A balanced judgement can recognise both a benefit and a limitation.

Key words and supplied examples.

2 · Worked example

A emphasises concentration; B emphasises access to seating. I can recommend keeping the quiet area while considering more seats, instead of dismissing one account.

3 · Your turn

Which detail supports B's concern, and does it disprove A's enjoyment?

Check your answer

Only two chairs and three people waiting support B. This does not disprove that A enjoyed quiet reading.

4 · Apply your learning

Write a short comparison using both accounts and distinguish evidence from your suggested improvement.

Adult guidance and safety

Read the supplied text together if needed. Accept well-supported alternative interpretations, not invented evidence. Use wider whole books, poems and plays alongside these short original models; provide specific feedback on writing and revisit spelling over time.

Not saved to your account. Download your drawing as PNG and your typed notes as TXT before leaving or refreshing. They are separate files. Do not enter private information.

Open a picture saved on this device to draw on it again. Opening replaces the drawing, but Undo can restore it. PNG only, up to 4 MB and 4096 × 4096 pixels. The picture stays in this browser; it is not uploaded. Paper lines in a saved picture become part of that picture.

Drawing is unavailable. Use the typed working area below.

Your pad is empty.

Open a UTF-8 TXT file from this device, up to 40 KB and 10,000 characters. It stays in this browser. Opening can be undone until you type again. Downloads keep a new copy; they do not change the file you opened.

Typed notes are not submitted answers.
