Collect the relevant details

1 · Learn

Read: The town library opens at nine on weekdays. Its upstairs study room opens at ten because staff prepare it first. On Saturdays, the whole building opens at eleven.

A question may require combining details without mixing conditions. If asked about a Tuesday study visit, use the weekday study-room information, not Saturday's building time.

Weekday building: 09:00Weekday study room: 10:00Saturday building: 11:00
Key words and supplied examples.

2 · Worked example

A Tuesday visitor cannot assume the study room opens at nine just because the building does. The stated study-room opening is ten.

3 · Your turn

At what time does the building open on Saturday? What reason is given for the weekday study room opening later?

Check your answer

Eleven; staff prepare the study room first.

4 · Apply your learning

Create two precise questions using different conditions from the passage. Ask a partner to identify every relevant detail before answering.

Use these original short models alongside sustained reading of whole books, poetry and plays from varied periods and cultures. Discuss alternative interpretations using evidence. Plan, draft and revise longer work; individual spelling, handwriting and decoding support remain important.
