Separate what happened from what might

1 · Learn

Paragraph 1: The village bridge was closed after a storm. People used a longer path to reach the market. The shopkeepers put up a sign showing the safer route.

Paragraph 2: By Friday, workers had checked the bridge and begun repairs. A notice said it would stay closed until the work was inspected. A summary reports main events; a prediction proposes a possible later event.

Key words and supplied examples.

2 · Worked example

Summary: After storm damage, people used a safer route while the bridge was repaired. Prediction: It may reopen after successful inspection. The second statement is not a reported event yet.

3 · Your turn

Has the passage confirmed that the bridge reopened on Friday? Give a one-sentence summary covering both paragraphs.

Check your answer

No: repairs had begun and inspection was still needed. For example: The damaged bridge stayed closed while a safer route was used and repairs were carried out.

4 · Apply your learning

Write a plausible next paragraph and label it as your invented continuation, not a fact from the supplied passage.
