Find a fraction of an amount

1 · Learn

A unit fraction has 1 as its numerator. To find one fifth of 20, share 20 into five equal groups: each group is 4.

For three fifths, take three of those groups. Three groups of four make 12. The denominator tells you the number of equal parts; the numerator tells you how many parts to take.

1/5 of 20 = 43/5 of 20 = 12
Key words and supplied examples.
