A right angle is a quarter turn

1 · Learn

An angle measures a turn between directions or lines. A right angle is a quarter turn. Two right angles make a half turn.

Three right angles make three quarters of a turn, and four make a full turn. You can compare an angle with a right-angle corner to see whether it is smaller or larger.

2 · Worked example

I face north on a paper compass. A clockwise right-angle turn makes me face east.

3 · Your turn

How many right angles make three quarters of a turn? Is a smaller-than-quarter turn smaller than a right angle?

Check your answer

Three right angles; yes.

4 · Apply your learning

Use a folded paper right-angle corner to compare drawn angles. Keep the starting directions clear.

Adult guidance and safety
