Choose where to look

1 · Learn

Read this information card. Shelter: A hedgehog may rest in a nest of leaves and grass. Food: Hedgehogs eat a range of small animals, including beetles and worms. Safety: Watch wildlife from a distance and ask an adult for advice.

Headings group information by topic. A contents page lists sections; an index often lists topics alphabetically with page numbers. Choose the tool that suits the information you need.

Key words and supplied examples.

2 · Worked example

To find what a hedgehog eats, I look under Food rather than reading only the first sentence under Shelter.

3 · Your turn

Which heading explains what a nest may be made from? Name two foods stated on the card.

Check your answer

Shelter. Beetles and worms are the two examples given.

4 · Apply your learning

Create a three-heading information card about a familiar classroom object. Check each sentence belongs under its heading.

Read aloud together where needed. Discuss more than one reasonable answer to open questions. These short original texts support, but do not replace, whole books, oral discussion, a school-matched phonics programme where needed, or regular handwriting and spelling practice.

Open a picture saved on this device to draw on it again. Opening replaces the drawing, but Undo can restore it. PNG only, up to 4 MB and 4096 × 4096 pixels. The picture stays in this browser; it is not uploaded. Paper lines in a saved picture become part of that picture.

Drawing is unavailable. Use the typed working area below.

Your pad is empty.

Open a UTF-8 TXT file from this device, up to 40 KB and 10,000 characters. It stays in this browser. Opening can be undone until you type again. Downloads keep a new copy; they do not change the file you opened.

Typed notes are not submitted answers.
